
Malappuram: Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal cancelled the meeting with MLA M C Kamaruddin who has been named accused in a financial fraud case. As per reports, Kamaruddin has been directed not to come to Panakkad for now.
The meeting which was scheduled for Thursday at 10 in the morning was postponed to afternoon first and later the meeting itself was cancelled. Muslim League leadership instructed Kamaruddin not to meet Panakkad Thangal in person for now Another meeting with the IUML leaders will be held on Thursday or Friday ahead of Thangal - Kamaruddin meeting.
MLA M C Kamaruddin is the key accused in a jewellery investment scam and is facing Crime Branch investigation. Majority of the complainants are Muslim League supporters too. Following this, Muslim League leaders summoned Kamaruddin to Panakkad and sought an explanation.
The MLA told them over phone that it was only the collapse of a business venture and that he did not engage in any financial fraud. The meeting was cancelled after many party workers holding different opinions regarding the issue reached Malappuram from Kasaragod. Meanwhile, Kamaruddin told Mathrubhumi News that the meeting was not cancelled. However, he did not reach Panakkad.
On Wednesday, 14 cases were registered in Chanthera police station in regard to the financial fraud. With this, the total number of cases in Chanthera station rose to 26. Apart from this, 5 complaints were filed in Kasaragod town station and 2 petitions in Hosdurg Magistrate Court. The houses of the MLA and T K Pookoya Thangal were raided by the police the other day.
