96-year-old writer M K Sanoo is in critical condition in a Kochi hospital after suffering a fall and undergoing surgery

Kochi: The health condition of renowned Malayalam writer and scholar M K Sanoo remains critical after he suffered a fracture to the right neck of the femur, doctors said on Saturday.
Sanoo was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi last week following a fall. He has since been undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit under the supervision of a team of specialist doctors.
A known case of systemic hypertension, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Sanoo was diagnosed with a fractured right femoral neck and underwent a right bipolar hemiarthroplasty. However, during the post-operative period, he developed breathing difficulties and oxygen desaturation.
He is currently being treated for pulmonary oedema, arrhythmia with heart block, and pneumonia, hospital sources said.
According to the latest medical bulletin issued by the hospital, the veteran is responding to medication, though his condition remains critical.
