MK Muneer’s weird argument on gender neutrality triggers row

Kozhikode: Muslim League leader MK Muneer has triggered a row by making a weird argument on gender neutrality. He asked why police register POCSO case against men over sexual relationship with minor boys when the government promote gender neutrality. He pointed out that gender neutrality challenges believers. He was addressing a seminar on the Kerala syllabus organised by Kerala Arabic Teachers Federation here on Thursday.

“ Many people are booked over cases related to homosexuality. Why do police register a POCSO case against a man for having a sexual relationship with a boy? If there is gender neutrality, there is no need for such a case. Many people will misuse gender neutrality. Many boys will be sexually exploited,” said Muneer.

“I don’t bother if people stamp me as Islamist over my stance against gender neutrality,” added Muneer.
Criticising the government’s move to promote gender-neutral uniforms in schools, the Muslim League leader pointed out that girls will not get justice by wearing shirts and trousers.

“ Do you think a new dress code will prevent sexual offences against women?. We should ensure gender justice instead of gender neutrality,” said Muneer.

Meanwhile, the Muslim League leader’s remark on gender neutrality at a programme organised by MSF turned controversial earlier. Now, his new remark connecting homosexuality and gender neutrality has triggered a fresh row.
