Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Transport Minister K.B Ganesh Kumar stated that driving licence tests will become more stringent to ensure that applicants receive sufficient training and are ready to take the road.  

He pointed out that MVD decided to strengthen the rules since many driver's license holders do not even know how to park their vehicles.

“The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has no desire to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by issuing 500 licenses per day. Every day, we read in the news about licence suspensions due to accidents. As a result, licences will now be provided only after thorough examinations,” the minister said.

“A license will not be issued just because a person does well in a ground test. The test should include reverse parking, properly reversing a vehicle and others,” he said. Ganesh Kumar also gave instructions to install cameras during the tests.

The test is usually conducted in vehicles owned by driving schools. There are complaints that the officials shout when the tests are conducted. The cameras will ensure that the officers do not misbehave with the candidates in any manner, the minister added.
