Perumbavoor: A day after the protest staged by migrant workers in Payippad, a similar incident took place at the Bengal colony in Perumbavoor on Monday.

The protest was staged alleging the food distributed through the community kitchen was not enough and the food was not according to their style. Workers took to the road to protest.

Some of the workers also alleged that the quality of food provided to them was poor. Authorities had provided them with rice and dal curry. But workers complained that they wanted chapati and not rice and also that the dal curry was not good.

Police and other officials are trying to reach a consensus with the workers. There are more than 3,000 migrant workers staying at the colony in Perumbavoor, the largest in Kerala.

Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture V. S. Sunilkumar said atta and chapati making machine were provided to them after they informed that they do not want Kerala style food.

“It is not clear what the actual problem is. I am looking into the matter,” he added.

On Sunday migrant workers had protested in Payippad near Changanasery demanding vehicle to go back to their homeland. They had also complained of non-availability of food items. When the protesters refused to disperse police had resorted to lathi charge
