
Wayanad: The body of Kannur native Shahana, who was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Meppadi, will be handed over to family on Sunday after the post mortem. The elephant attack happened while Shahana was staying inside the tent of a private resort.
The tragic incident took place on Saturday evening. It is said that she fell down while running away after she heard the trumpeting of the elephant. She was trampled to death by the elephant that followed her. The cause of death can only be finalised after receiving the post mortem report.
Shahana, a college lecturer hailing from Kannur, had come to the resort with two family members and they were staying in a tent, when the animal attacked. The mishap took place at the resort inside Elambileri estate in a forest area near Chembramala. Hence, there was difficulty in taking her to the hospital at the right time. By the time she was taken to the hospital at 8.14 pm, Shahana had already lost her life. Following this, the body was kept at the mortuary.
Elambileri estate is a cardamom plantation. The resort owners provide tent facilities for the tourists who visit this place.
