Meals at Rs 25; Govt to allocate 600 ton rice for Janakeeya hotels

It was decided to open 1000 Janakeeya hotels across the state. Meals will be available for Rs 25 there. The newly opened hotels also provide home delivery.

Alappuzha: The Department of Food and Civil Supplies will allocate 600 tonnes of rice for the Janakeeya hotels started as part of the Hunger-Free Kerala project. The rice will be distributed for Rs 10.90 from the nearby ration shop.

It has been directed to grant the permit for rice as District Supply Officers submitted applications from Kudumbashree units. It was decided to open 1000 Janakeeya hotels across the state. Meals will be available for Rs 25 there.

The newly opened Janakeeya hotels also provide home delivery. Sufficient amount of food grains will be supplied for Janakeeya hotels and will ensure that this rice is not used for any other purpose.

Expense for food kit

The government will have to spend Rs 872.88 crore for distributing food kit for the ration cardholders in the state. There are about 87.29 crore cardholders in Kerala. The government do not have sufficient fund for providing the kit and coronavirus resistance. So, the crisis will be overcome through sponsorship.
