The recruitment agents had promised good money and foreign citizenship following which many youngsters from India as well flown to Russia, dreaming of a better life.

The youths, who had paid huge amounts of money to get a job there, are now staking their life in the war to seize Ukraine, Vineeth said. A huge scale of human trafficking has been reported from Russia, he said, adding that all of them were deceived by recruiting agents.

They are forced to follow the orders of the officials there as they could not communicate with them in Russian language, VIneeth added.

The youths are forced to sign a contract in Russian language having around 30 pages on reaching there. Around 32 youths from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam refused to sign the contract. An Anchuthengu native, Prince, there in a hospital helped them return home.

The conditions in the contract are so strict that once signed, even the government cannot help them return to their homeland. Also, once they become part of the Russian Army, no other agency can locate who is where, he said.

Search on for mastermind

The mastermind behind the human trafficking is suspected to be Alex, a Thumba native. He was the one to receive three youths from Anchuthengu at a Russian airport in January. He went missing after handing over the youths to a centre there. He had also allegedly threatened the 32 youths, who refused to sign the pact, over phone. Priyan, who was arrested recently by the CBI in the case, is a relative of Alex.
