Malappuram: Who doesn’t love to indulge in the goodness of a freshly plucked mango? It is by itself a feeling when en-route to the school you see a mango tree and you're overcome by the uncontrollable urge to pluck raw mangoes and eat them. The residents of the house ‘Breeze’ located on University-Kadakkattupara road know very well what that feeling is, which is why they put out a note on their wall.
The note reads: The mangoes on the branches leaning towards the road are for school students, the citizens of tomorrow. Use the sharp hook placed next to the gate to pluck a mango each day.
The note ends with the hearty leave-taking that goes ‘From Ummar sir and Khadeeja madam’. The note was pasted in front of the residence of Ummar Avathkattil, retired Deputy Registrar from Calicut University.

‘There are only a very few people in this house. Why do we need so many mangoes? Let the naughty kids have them all,’ says Ummar. He also helps the kids pluck mangoes if he’s free. His house is on the way to Campus Model Higher Secondary School. Ummar had posted a note like this last year as well. The yield was much higher last year. Many students eat the yummy mangoes that grow on his mango tree.
