In a press meet after tendering his resignation as MLA, PV Anvar addressed the media to explain the reasons behind his decision. Anvar, who served as the MLA from Nilambur, thanked the voters of his constituency and CPM leaders while clarifying that his resignation was urged by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Anvar revealed that he sent his resignation letter via email on January 11 and handed it over personally today. He stated that it is now up to the Speaker to accept his resignation.

Mamata Banerjee's role in resignation

During a video call with Mamata Banerjee, Anvar discussed the critical issue of human-wildlife conflict, which severely affects Kerala. Anvar said, "Mamata Banerjee suggested that if I work together with the party, this important issue will be raised in Parliament." Anvar also said that Mamata also mentioned discussing the matter with Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the INDIA alliance.

Anvar also explained that he did not initially intend to resign but was urged to take immediate action by Trinamool leadership. He further clarified that as an MLA, switching parties involves several legal complications, so he had planned to wait until the next election. However, Mamata insisted that the wildlife conflict issue should not be delayed and advised him to resign and dedicate his efforts to the cause.

Anvar also  shared that he consulted with his supporters in Nilambur and other influential people, including bishops from the hilly areas. He mentioned that the advice he received was to follow what was right for the cause, especially if Mamata Banerjee was willing to raise the issue in Parliament. This collective support from his community and leaders influenced his final decision to resign.

Will not contest Nilambur by-election

PV Anvar also announced that he will not contest the Nilambur by-election. He stated that he would offer unconditional support to the UDF's Congress candidate. He recommended that the UDF field Malappuram DCC President VS Joy as its candidate.
