Jayesh George, the current president of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), has been appointed as the first-ever chairman of the Women's Premier League (WPL). The announcement came following the BCCI's Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai, where his selection was unanimously approved.

Jayesh brings decades of administrative experience to the WPL. He began his career in cricket governance as the secretary of the Ernakulam District Cricket Association. Over the years, he held various key roles within the KCA, including joint secretary, treasurer, secretary, and eventually president. In 2019, he also served as joint secretary of the BCCI.

Since taking over as KCA president in 2022, George has been instrumental in boosting the profile of cricket in Kerala. Notably, he spearheaded the launch and successful execution of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), which saw significant engagement and popularity in the state. His leadership is expected to bring enhanced professionalism and vision to the WPL.

Meanwhile, MyKhel quoted George as saying, “As the country celebrates Navratri, a festival that honours women's power, receiving this position at such a time brings me immense joy. I thank the BCCI for placing their trust in me and the Kerala Cricket Association for their support. I will strive to make the Women’s Premier League better and to provide new opportunities for women cricketers.”

KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar was also quoted as welcoming the appointment, “This is a proud moment for Kerala cricket. Jayesh George's leadership will give women's cricket in the state a major boost. With KCA set to launch its own women’s league next year, this milestone will serve as great motivation. We also hope to host WPL matches and other major women’s events in Kerala soon.”

In other key developments from the AGM, Mithun Manhas was named the new president of the BCCI, succeeding Roger Binny.
