Palani: A 24-year-old youngster from Malappuram, identified as Naji, reportedly created ruckus in Kodaikanal after allegedly consuming drugs.

Naji, who was initially admitted to a government hospital in Kodaikanal, turned violent. He broke a window glass in the hospital and attempted to slit his throat, leading to critical injuries. He was subsequently rushed to Madurai Medical College for further treatment.

Here's how the events unfolded:

Naji, along with his friends Maji (19) from Malappuram and Christi (23) from Kochi, arrived in Kodaikanal on Tuesday morning. The group reportedly travelled to Kookal, where they allegedly consumed drugs.

Naji is said to have fallen off a moving vehicle after getting high. Locals brought him to the government hospital in Kodaikanal, where he began causing trouble for patients and hospital staff. In a violent outburst, he broke a window glass with his hands and attempted to take his own life by slashing his throat with a piece of glass.

Naji is currently receiving treatment at Madurai Medical College. The Kodaikanal police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities suspect that the group may have consumed either cannabis or psychedelic mushrooms.

Psychedelic mushrooms are reportedly being cultivated widely in Kodaikanal. There are several groups involved in the trade of these mushrooms, with many individuals from Kerala travelling to Kodaikanal to partake in their use.
