Malappuram: A man was admitted to Manjeri Medical College hospital here with mpox symptoms. A native of Othai at Edavanna, he was been admitted to the hospital and his fluid sample has been sent for testing.

Last Monday, the man arrived at the hospital after returning from the Gulf. He sought consultation with a dermatologist due to a rash on his arm resembling chickenpox, along with fever. Given his travel history, the doctors decided to send a fluid sample to the Kozhikode Medical College lab to test for mpox symptoms.

The person has been admitted with symptoms of mpox amid rising Nipah panic in the district.

A 24-year-old man who died in Malappuram was diagnosed with Nipah. Following which, restrictions have been imposed in various parts of the district. In Malappuram district, the district collector has issued an order mandating masks while going out. Containment zones were also declared in the district.
