Malappuram: Police have arrested a Malappuram man who allegedly tried to smuggle gold worth Rs 64 lakh inside his body. The person arrested has been identified as Muhammad Raheez who arrived in an Indigo flight from Dammam at Karipur airport. 

Raheez arrived at the airport on Friday evening. He was able to get through the customs check and came outside the airport by 7:30 pm. However, Malappuram police nabbed him outside the airport.

The police intervention was based on intelligence inputs it received. The person was taken into custody and during quizzing he claimed that he does not possess gold. 

The police then took the person to the hospital for screening. It was found that he had 1066 grams of gold inside his body. It was in the form of four capsules, which had powered gold. It is estimated that gold values around 64 lakhs. 

It is the 26th seizure by police this year.
