Kozhikode, Kerala: Major traffic restrictions will be in place in the district on Sunday in connection with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit. The traffic police said the restrictions will begin at 5 pm.
Complete traffic restrictions will be imposed from Vaidyarangadi and Ramanattukara to Malaparamba, and from Malaparamba to Kunnamangalam-Madavoor.
Vehicles arriving from Wayanad will have to enter Kozhikode city via Thamarassery, Balussery, Nanminda and Eranhipalam. Vehicles coming from the Koduvally side should take the Padanilam-Kalarikkandy-Varattiyakkal-Peringalam route, while those from Mukkam should use the Chethukadavu-Peringalam route.
Vehicles arriving from Kannur will have to take the Elathur-Pavangad-Nadakkavu route. Vehicles coming from the Calicut University side should enter the city via Idimuzhikkal-Ramanattukara-Feroke-Cheruvannur.
Vehicles travelling from the city towards Kunnamangalam should use the Medical College-Mundikkal Thazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath Road route. Vehicles coming from the Malaparamba side should take the Poolakkadavu-Iringadanpally-Mundikkal Thazham-Kottamparamba-Manathanath Road route towards Kunnamangalam.

The police said traffic along the route will be completely restricted during the movement of the VVIP.
Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to arrive at Karipur International Airport at 6.30 pm on Sunday. He will be at Markazu from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, where Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar will present him with the first ‘Excellence Award’ instituted by the Sheikh Abubakr Foundation.
The Malaysian prime minister will then visit Madavoor CM Makham, where he will spend around 20 minutes. He is scheduled to leave for his accommodation at 10 pm.
Kozhikode city and its surrounding areas have been placed under a tight security blanket in connection with Anwar Ibrahim’s visit. Security arrangements similar to those provided for the Indian prime minister and president will be put in place for the Malaysian prime minister.
Intelligence ADGP Dinesh Kashyap arrived in Kozhikode on Friday morning and held discussions with security officials regarding the arrangements.
