Thiruvananthapuram: CPM leader MA Baby has reiterated his allegation that there is a covert understanding between the Congress and the BJP in Kerala politics. He claimed that the loss of certain votes suffered by the Left Democratic Front in the recent local body elections was due to a deal between the UDF and the BJP.
He further alleged that the BJP was able to open its account in Nemom constituency in Thiruvananthapuram only because of transferred votes, and warned that similar arrangements could surface in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“Anyone who knows how to add and subtract numbers can understand how the BJP got representation in the Assembly. It is also clear from which front’s votes—whether as part of a deal or otherwise—a BJP leader associated with the RSS came to the Assembly from Nemom,” Baby said.
He added that the LDF suffered some setbacks in the recent panchayat elections, and a major reason behind those losses was a deal between the UDF, Congress, IUML, and the BJP. He alleged that similar strategies are being planned for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Baby also stressed that communal forces, especially the BJP led by the RSS, should not be allowed to expand their influence in Kerala under any circumstances. He expressed confidence that the people of Kerala would continue to support the LDF, trusting its development initiatives and welfare schemes over the past decade.
On the Sabarimala gold smuggling case, Baby said he does not believe that Sonia Gandhi is involved. He pointed out that no evidence has emerged against her so far, and that she cannot be blamed based merely on the circulation of some photos. He added that he has great respect for her and does not believe she would be part of such matters.
However, he noted that it is suspicious that the accused in the gold smuggling case had travelled multiple times with Congress leaders, including former Devaswom ministers and current MPs, allegedly bypassing security checks. He demanded that Congress leaders respond to these concerns.
