M V Shreyams Kumar has been unanimously elected as the state president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). His continuation was confirmed by party sources on Sunday, following the completion of a comprehensive internal election process.

The party’s organisational election began from the grassroots level and culminated in the formation of a new leadership structure. Out of the 140-member state council, a 50-member state committee and a 20-member delegation to the RJD national council were elected to represent Kerala.

M V Shreyams Kumar said that the RJD in Kerala would be strengthened by upholding democratic socialist values and by addressing the issues faced by ordinary farmers.

Highlighting the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Shreyams Kumar urged that June 25 be observed across all districts as Human Rights Protection Day. He noted the severe denial of civil liberties and democratic freedoms during the Emergency and lauded the resistance led by the socialist movement. He reminded that socialist and leftist leaders, including many in Kerala, were imprisoned at the time. He stressed the need for vigilance among democratic believers even today, in a time when human and civil rights continue to face threats.
