Kochi: The Kerala Loka Sabhas conducted so far seems to have yielded minimal results. Only very few developmental projects have been implemented so far as part of it. Almost Rs 4.80 crores have been spent on organising various events in the state and abroad. However, the officials are presenting the establishment of 'Keralites Investment and Holding Limited' as their biggest achievement so far.
All this information was included in a reply given by NORKA to RTI activist M K Haridas. The Keralites Investment and Holding Limited was set up for utilising the money of expats for executing developmental works in the state. However, not much information about the achievements of the company are available as of now,
Meanwhile, NORKA highlights the setting up of the International Expatriates Study Centre, expansion of the activities of the Malayalam Mission and the distribution of publications called Loka Malayalam, as being its major achievements. In addition to this, they state that a cooperative society was set up in Thiruvananthapuram for facilitating welfare and rehabilitation of the expats.
Also, a women's cell was set up for aiding those working abroad. Through its interference, the body had got a contract signed in connection with the appointment of health workers seeking employment in the United Kingdom.
‘Pravasi Mithram’ a portal related to land revenue was set up as part of the discussion in the Loka Kerala Sabha; help desks were run by members during the pandemic.
Regional meetings were held in UAE, Europe and the US. Despite being sponsored programmes, the state had to shell out approximately Rs 54.32 crores for travel, accommodation and other purposes.
These are being cited as the few achievements of the Loka Kerala Sabha.
