Palakkad: Local bodies in Palakkad won't incur the expense of delivering saplings to be distributed on World Environment Day. The Local Self Government Department secretary issued a circular allowing for up to Rs 10,000 to be spent on transporting tree saplings from nurseries to various local institutions. This amount can be utilized from the plan fund or the local body's own fund.
Every year, saplings are distributed to local institutions under the Social Forestry-Employment Scheme as part of the Environment Day celebrations.
Since there is a limit on the amount that can be spent from their own funds, most local bodies have set aside only Rs 4000 for sapling distribution in the past years. Due to this, if the amount is exhausted, the seedling distribution cannot be done.
