Kozhikode: The Kerala unit of Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) will merge with Rashtriya Janata Dal in October, the state council meeting held here on Saturday decided unanimously.

The meeting observed that the anti-democratic and ant-secular regime of the Narendra Modi-led union government in the last nine years wrecked the unity and constitutional principles of the country.

RJD has been a political entity staunchly countering the Modi regime’s stand of polarizing people with communal divides. The party has never accorded with the communal forces in the national political spectrum, the LJD’s media release said.

The merger decision has been taken after considering the relevance of RJD in national politics and its leadership's contribution towards the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance(INDIA) bloc- the alliance of Opposition parties against the majoritarian politics of the Modi regime.

The council meeting has also unanimously decided to demand LDF a cabinet berth which it deserves. It also acknowledged the Puthupally by-poll mandate and readiness to identify the lapses that resulted in LDF’s defeat.

LJD state president MV Shreyams Kumar presided over the council meeting. MK Premnath, Charupara Ravi, V Kunhali, Sunny Thomas, KJ Sohan, EP Damodaran, Salim Madavoor, and MK Bhaskaran among others addressed the forum.
