Kannur: The sincere prayers of a girl, who had broken down in a video shot at a hospital verandah saying Rs 18 lakh was required for her mother’s liver transplant surgery, was answered. Within a few hours, Rs 89 lakh was credited in the bank account.

Thrissur native Sajan Kecheri and Firoz Kunnamparambil, who are charity workers, have posted a video of Varsha requesting help on social media. Within 14 hours, Varsha’s mother bank account received Rs 50 lakh. Sajan then took to social media and requested people not to send any more money. This was informed to the bank also. Following this bank closed the account. However, by then Rs 89 lakh was received.

Varsha is the liver donor for Radha. The surgery costs Rs 18.5 lakh. For the hospital expenses and follow-up treatments, a total of Rs 25 lakh is expected. Let them use the rest of the donations on a house which they don’t have at present. If there is any balance, let Varsha donate it to someone else who is in similar situation, Sajan further said.

Varsha and her mother Radha reside in a rented house near Kakkathodu in Kannur. Her father had abandoned them long ago. Radha works in an ice-cream parlour to make ends meet. She visited Amrita hospital in Ernakulam after suffering from jaundice. Doctors then told her that liver transplantation had to be done.

The 11-hour long surgery started at 11 am on Thursday and was completed. Before the surgery, Varsha had come live on social media and thanked everyone for their help.
