Kochi: Cost of lemons witnessed a steep hike in the state. The price ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per kilogram and the availability of lemons dropped in the market. Lemons were priced at Rs 80- 90 here last month.
The wholesale rate of the citrus fruit was Rs 160 in Ernakulam while the retail price hit Rs 200. At Maradu market, the wholesale rate touched Rs 190 and retail price ranged from Rs 220 to 240.
Lemons are usually imported to the state from Puliyangudi in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Currently, lemons cost more than apples and oranges in Kerala.
With the rise in price of lemons, cost of lemonade has also increased in many locations in the state.
