Thiruvananthapuram: The content of the Hema Commission report is shocking, said Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan. Speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram following the revelations in the Hema Commission report, VD Satheesan questioned the government’s intentions, saying that the delay in releasing the report seems dubious.
“Who were they trying to protect all these years by sitting idle on a report that was submitted to the government four and a half years ago?” he asked.
A ruling party that always boasts about protecting women has not taken any steps regarding the report, which specifically details atrocities against women. This is quite suspicious. The Chief Minister should explain the reason behind the delay in releasing the report, Satheesan said.
“Steps should be taken regarding the recommendations of the commission. Investigations should be conducted based on the report, which indicates that sexual abuse is rampant in the industry. There should also be an investigation into the presence of a drug mafia. Investigations into sexual abuse against women artists should be led by senior female IPS officers. Those involved, regardless of their stature, must be brought before the law. It is the government’s responsibility. The report suggests that some incidents may warrant POCSO charges. Immediate action should be taken to punish the perpetrators. Such exploitation should not occur in any job sector,” Satheesan said.
