Thrippunithura: Exposing feuds in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) after a brief lull, the CPM Ernakulam district leadership has come out strongly against its ally CPI alleging that inaction from its party workers has contributed largely to the defeat of CPM candidate M Swaraj in Thrippunithura assembly constituency.

It was on the basis of an election review report of CPM, the issue was raised. The report found Swaraj did not get many CPI votes in five booths in Udayamperoor area. CPM Acting State Secretary, A Vijayaraghavan, has been conveyed the issues during the district secretariat and district committee meetings.

Udayamperoor is a stronghold of CPM and the party has been in power in the panchayat for decades now, except once the party tasted defeat. The members of CPM alleged that Swaraj did not get CPI votes and its members did not work in support of Swaraj during the polls.

The report also highlighted an incident to expose factional feuds in CPM. Many CPM workers, including former local committee secretary Raghuvaran, migrated to CPI due to an internal issue before the polls. However, there were not many issues after that and the report exposed chaos in the front.

On the basis of the complaint given by Swaraj, CPM district committee member CN Sundaran has been terminated from all party positions. Even in Eroor, another stronghold of CPM, the party couldn’t gain much votes as expected.

Senior CPM leaders Gopi Kottamurikkal and KJ Jacob were part of the enquiry commission. The defeat of Swaraj was a shocker for CPM despite the stunning victory in the polls.

In the meantime, Ernakulam district secretariat member CK Mani Sankar has been demoted to district committee over the report finding his lapse in the failure. The decision has also been taken to warn NC Mohanan, District Secretariat member. Earlier, they were asked explanation over the failure in view of the report.

In connection with the issues in Piravom constituency, Koothattukulam area secretary Shaju Jacob has been terminated from district committee. KD Vincent has been removed from the position as area secretary over issues in Thrikkakkara constituency.

Koothattukulam area committee office secretary Arun Sathyakumar has been removed from responsibility over issues in Piravom constituency.

Decision has been taken to warn Chellakkapadi branch secretary, Arun V Mohanan. Thrippunithura area secretary P Vasudevan has been exempted despite the report pointed out lapses from his side.

The issues in Kalamassery constituency, which was not in the report, have been discussed and Alangad Area Secretary MK Babu has been warned.

Decisions have also been taken to merge Alangad, Nedumbassery, Kalady and Mulanthuruthy area committees. Vyttila committee will now be known as Thrikkakkara committee.
