Palakkad: To nurture a skilled workforce and improve technical competence, the labour department in Kerala would launch an initiative to provide skill-based training to workers in the construction sector.

In the initial stage, Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra (KESNIK) would provide training to 320 workers through its district offices. The project aims to increase productivity, reduce unnecessary spending and create a quality workforce in the sector.

Labour Department Additional Secretary K. Josephine stated that workers would receive technical training as part of the department's initiative 'National Housing Park'--a collaboration with start-ups to bring forth new technologies in the building sector.

Through 'National Housing Park' the companies that manufacture raw materials through innovative technologies would be given a platform to showcase their products. For the smooth functioning of the initiative, the department would seek the help of experts in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
