Kozhikode: 'Food on Wheels', a project helmed by Kudumbashree, will soon hit the streets with various cuisines of Kozhikode. Kudumbashree vehicles, with live kitchens, will serve food at a reasonable price by the end of April onwards.

Various Kudumbasree units in the city will provide the service in ten vehicles. Each of these vehicles costs around Rs 5 lakh. A loan can be availed for 85% of the total cost. If the loan is repaid on time, the unit will get a 4% interest rebate under the National Urban Livelihood Mission.

The vehicles which run on CNG have a specially designed space for preparing and storing food. In addition, a solar panel is installed for electricity. A similar project is being implemented in Kochi using an electric vehicle.

The food cart is expected to function in areas of the city that generate more revenue. The food cart will function only during the evenings.
