Thiruvananthapuram: A complaint has been lodged with the vigilance director alleging that former MP and CPM state secretariat member PK Biju, who serves as a syndicate member of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), received Rs 12.20 lakh as travel allowance from the university illegally.
The complaint, which has been filed by the Save University Campaign Committee, states that the leader had unlawfully obtained the money after providing wrong information.
As per reports, when Biju became a member of the syndicate, he had listed his residential address as Kottayam. However, on his travel allowance documents, he submitted invoices for travelling from Thrissur. As a former MP, Biju is also entitled to travel for free on trains (AC first class).
Yet, among all the syndicate members, Biju has received the highest amount as travel allowance. Complainants alleged that the leader had acquired more than Rs 10,000 for every trip, in addition to the sitting fee.
In comparison with other universities of the state, KTU syndicate members collect the highest amount as travel allowance, sitting fee and inspection fee, said committee chairman RS Sasikumar and secretary Shajarkhan.
While those members of the Kerala, Calicut and University syndicate, assigned for college inspections, receive Rs 750, KTU members receive Rs 5,000, they added.
