Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan has issued the notification for the September 2026 Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET), conducted for teacher appointments in Lower Primary (LP), Upper Primary (UP), high school and language and specialist categories in Kerala.
The KTET is conducted by the General Education Department to ensure the quality of teachers in accordance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009.

Four categories
Category 1 – Lower Primary: Candidates should have Plus Two with at least 45 per cent marks along with TTC/D.El.Ed. Alternatively, candidates with at least 50 per cent in Plus Two and a four-year B.El.Ed./D.Ed. in Special Education are eligible.
Category 2 – Upper Primary: Candidates should have a degree in any subject along with TTC/D.El.Ed. or B.Ed. Candidates with at least 50 per cent marks in Plus Two and a four-year B.El.Ed., B.A. B.Ed. or B.Sc. B.Ed. are also eligible.
Category 3 – High School: Candidates should have a degree in the relevant subject with at least 45 per cent marks and B.Ed (Alternatively, an M.Sc. B.Ed. qualification is accepted).
Category 4 – Language and specialist teachers: This category covers language teachers up to the UP level in Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu, as well as physical education, art and craft and other specialist teachers. Candidates must have the academic and teacher-training qualifications prescribed by the General Education Department, including relevant language courses or diplomas and certificates or diplomas in art, craft or physical education.
Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, OEC and PH categories eligible for reservation will receive a five-percentage relaxation in the marks required for academic qualifications.
Those in the final year or final semester of B.Ed., D.El.Ed. or TTC courses can also apply. Candidates should refer to the prospectus for the detailed eligibility criteria.

Exam details
The KTET examinations will be held on November 14 and 15. Each paper will be of 2.5 hours and will consist of multiple-choice questions carrying 150 marks. There will be no negative marking.
To qualify, candidates in the general category must secure 60 per cent (90 marks). The qualifying marks are 55 per cent (82 marks) for SC, ST, OBC and OEC candidates and 50 per cent (75 marks) for candidates with disabilities.
Application dates and fee
Online registration will begin on September 23 through ktet.kerala.gov.in. The last date to submit applications, pay the fee and take the final printout is October 3.
Hall tickets will be available from November 4.
The application fee is Rs 500 for general-category candidates and Rs 250 for SC, ST and candidates with disabilities.
