Thrissur: A KSRTC Volvo bus crashed into the statue of Sakthan Thampuran in Thrissur city. The tall structure installed at Sakthan Thampuran Nagar toppled to the ground due to the impact of the collision.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. Three bus passengers sustained minor injuries in the collision.

The Kozhikode-bound low-floor bus, which hit the statue, had started its journey from Thiruvananthapuram. According to initial reports, the driver allegedly dozed off during the journey, resulting in the accident.

Following prolonged demand, the statue of Sakthan Thampuran was eventually installed in 2020.

Thrissur Mayor M.K. Varghese has ordered an immediate reinstallation of the statue.
