Kollam: Ahead of the distribution of salaries in instalments, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has begun efforts to increase the daily income to Rs 8 crore. Reportedly, the income will be calculated on depot basis.

The revenue and expenditure of all buses, including ordinary and AC sleepers, will be calculated separately. There are plans to increase the income to Rs 10 crore on Mondays after holidays too.

However, the revenue is likely to drop to Rs 7 crore on off-peak Wednesdays. If the monthly revenue is increased to Rs 240 crore, then KSRTC need not wait for government aid to pay salaries.

Nevertheless, it is unlikely to get a regular collection of Rs 240 crore every month. During peak months, the revenue may rise up to Rs 265 crore but could drop to Rs 215 crore amid off-peak times.

The revenue limit of the depots have been decided on the basis of the number of buses, including K-SWIFT, in each area. The authorities should take necessary measures to run maximum services in each depot, KSRTC management said.

Meanwhile, the income from budget tourism and courier services will not be calculated and talks, with recognized unions, are in the pipeline regarding the same.
