Kottayam: Terminating its agreement with Kerala Electricals Limited (KEL) due to its failure to supply transformers, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has awarded new transformer contracts to Transcon and Unipower.
An order for 700 transformers (100 kVA) was given to Transcon Ind by KSEB. 200 transformers have already been delivered and the inspection of another 200 has been completed by the company. The same will be delivered to the board by next week.
Meanwhile, the Unipower company will provide 275 transformers (160 kVA).
As per the earlier contract, the KEL was supposed to provide 1,198 transformers (100 kVA) and 350 transformers (160 kVA) by last December. However, the company delivered only 60 transformers (160 kVA). So KSEB sent a notice to KEL, which had bid lower price in the expression of interest. However, as it failed to distribute the transformers, the KSEB gave the order to companies that bid the next lower price.
As part of the strengthening measures of the power distribution sector, the KSEB has decided to install 1000 new transformers.
