Kozhikode: Imagine a structure as wide as eight average roads combined—this is the scale of the new sky lobby coming to Kozhikode Railway Station. As part of the station’s transformation into an international-standard facility, the new building will include a sky lobby that spans 48 meters in width and 110 meters in length.

This air concourse, designed like those in airports, will serve as a spacious waiting area while also housing a variety of commercial and entertainment facilities. The lobby will include departmental stores, retail shops, gaming zones, gift shops, and bookshops. Its design ensures ample ventilation and natural lighting, offering a comfortable experience for travelers.

Connecting platforms and parking

The sky lobby will connect multi-level parking complexes on the east and west sides of the station to the railway platforms. Constructed at a height of 8 meters above ground level, it will accommodate the current four tracks and two additional tracks planned for the future. Travelers will have access to stairs, escalators, and elevators from the lobby to the platforms.

The sky lobby will be located in the middle of the platforms, with additional skywalks planned for the north and south sides.

First sky lobby in the state

This will be the first sky lobby in any railway station in Kerala, with similar plans proposed for seven other stations. The Kozhikode lobby will be the widest among them. Currently, the widest sky lobby in India is at Gandhinagar Railway Station in Jaipur, spanning 72 meters.

Parking for 644 cars and 2,266 bikes

The revamped Kozhikode Railway Station will also feature multi-level parking complexes and ground parking facilities, accommodating 644 cars and 2,266 two-wheelers.

The eastern parking complex will have space for 172 cars and 648 two-wheelers, while the western complex will accommodate 252 cars and 558 two-wheelers. Additionally, three ground-level parking areas will be available.
