Thalassery: A body, believed to be that of Pramod, the man wanted in connection with the murder of his two sisters in Kozhikode, was found on Thalassery beach on Tuesday morning. The body reportedly washed ashore and was identified by relatives through a photograph.
What happened to the two sisters?
The body has been found days after the tragic death of sisters M Sreejaya (70) and M Pushpalalitha (66), who were found strangled in their rented home on Saturday morning. Their brother Pramod (62), who lived with them, had been missing since the incident, prompting police to issue a lookout notice.
According to the post-mortem report, both women died by strangulation. Police launched an intensive search for Pramod after his sudden disappearance. The last known location from his mobile phone was traced to Feroke railway station, but a search of the area yielded no results.
At approximately 5 am on the day of the incident, Pramod reportedly called a relative, informing them that his sisters had died. When relatives arrived at the house around 8 am, the door was found ajar. Inside, the two women were found dead in separate rooms, each laid on mattresses on the floor and covered with white cloths. By that time, Pramod had already fled the scene.
After an unsuccessful search for him in the area, the relatives informed neighbours, who subsequently alerted police.
Both deceased sisters were reportedly suffering from health issues. Sreejaya had been bedridden since contracting COVID-19. The three siblings, unmarried had been living together in the Florican Road house for approximately three years. Sreejaya was a retired health department employee, and the household primarily relied on her pension for sustenance. Neighbours said Pramod undertook electrical work and occasionally sold lottery tickets.
According to statements gathered by the police, Pramod had previously expressed his frustration to local residents, reportedly saying: "I can't look after them anymore, I'm fed up."
Police believe the alleged crime may have been driven by psychological stress and the burden of long-term caregiving, especially in the absence of external support.
