Kozhikode: In a case of fake marriage, a doctor here was duped of Rs 5,60,000.
The doctor, retired from the service, had advertised in a newspaper seeking alliance for him, following which the culprits, identified as Irshana, Rafi, Majeed and Sathar, all hailing from Kanjangad in Kasaragod, contacted him over phone. Later they came to Kozhikode and personally met him and gained his trust. Soon they started seeking money from him in the name of marriage expenses.
Two months ago the marriage was solemnised at a lodge near the beach here. When the doctor went out of the room after the ceremony, the miscreants fled the scene taking all the jewelry and money. On realising that he was cheated, the doctor tried to contact them on their number several times, but in vain.
The doctor later filed a complaint with the Nadakkavu Police.
Meanwhile, the police said they have identified the culprits and the search is on to nab them.
