Kondotty: No interested parties have come forward to accept the Rs 404.18 crore contract for the Kozhikode airport development project. As no quotations have been received, the finalisation of the contract is still pending.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has invited tenders for works worth Rs 404.18 crore for expansion of RESA (Runway End Safety Area), ancillary works, construction of sewers and related maintenance. The time to submit quotations was between September 5-13. The agreement was scheduled to be finalised in two parts on September 19 and October 11.

The e-tender was called through an online tender portal CPP. A contract can only be confirmed if at least two quotations are received. If only one or no one participates, the time limit will naturally be extended.

The project is mainly aimed at extending the RESA on both ends of the runway from 90 meters to 240 meters. For this, the state government is procuring 12.5 acres of land and this is now at the final stages. The time allotted for RESA construction is 19 months.

RESA is being expanded with the aim to bring larger aircrafts to Kozhikode airport. Following the 2020 plane crash, large aircrafts have been banned.
