The restoration of stops for three trains bound for Gujarat at Koyilandy will greatly benefit passengers

Koyilandy: The Southern Railway has issued an order restoring the stop at Koyilandy railway station for weekly trains—Thiruvananthapuram Central–Veraval Express (No. 16334), Nagercoil Junction–Gandhidham Express (No. 16336) and Kochuveli–Shri Ganganagar Express (No. 16312). The halt for these three trains bound for Gujarat had been withdrawn when travel restrictions were imposed during the Covid period.
After the travel restrictions were lifted, the Veraval–Thiruvananthapuram Express and the Gandhidham–Nagercoil Express, returning from Gujarat, were allowed a stop at Koyilandy. However, the trains going from Kerala had no such halt. That has now been permitted. The decision to grant these stops came following strong interventions from passengers and public representatives. During the Covid period, several halts were withdrawn as part of the zero-base timetable, but the Railways has now reinstated all of it. A related circular has been issued by the Southern Railway.
The halt at Ottapalam for the Ernakulam–Karaikal Tea Garden Express, the halts at Melattur, Pattikkad, and Kulukkallur for the Nilambur–Kottayam Express, the halt at Payyanur for the Bhavnagar–Thiruvananthapuram North Express, and the halts at Payyannur and Koyilandy for the Thiruvananthapuram–Veraval Express have all been restored. Meanwhile, the halts at Kanhangad, Payyannur, and Koyilandy for the Nagercoil–Gandhidham Express; the halt at Koyilandy for the Thiruvananthapuram North–Shri Ganganagar Express; the halt at Thiruvalla for the Mangaluru–Thiruvananthapuram Express; and the halt at Thiruvalla for the Rajya Rani Express have also been reinstated.
The restoration of stops for three trains bound for Gujarat at Koyilandy will greatly benefit passengers. The Ernakulam–Okha Express, another service to Gujarat, already has a scheduled halt at Koyilandy. Hundreds of people from the Koyilandy region are employed in various sectors in cities such as Baroda, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Jamnagar.
The Thiruvananthapuram–Veraval Express provides services on Mondays, the Nagercoil–Gandhidham Express on Tuesdays, and the Kochuveli–Shri Ganganagar Express on Saturdays towards Gujarat. These trains pass through Koyilandy between 12:30 a.m. and 12:40 a.m.
