Even as life at Thalayolaparambu moved on with hardship and grief, what struck P Anandhakshan most was how Bindu had always carried herself with calm grace, never once revealing the burdens she bore. A long-time employee at his store, Sivas Silks, Bindu’s death in the recent building collapse at Kottayam Medical College left Anandhakshan deeply shaken.

It was only after visiting her home following the tragedy that he truly understood the harsh realities of her life — and just how central she was to her family's survival. Overcome with emotion at the sight of her humble home and grieving mother, Anandhakshan knew he had to act.

Without hesitation, he decided to offer a ₹1 lakh lump sum to Bindu’s family and pledged ₹5,000 every month to her mother Seethalakshmi as long-term support — a gesture he describes as something akin to a pension.

“I couldn’t believe someone coming from such dire circumstances worked with us for 8 years without ever once complaining,” he said. “From now on, before the 2nd of every month, ₹5,000 will reach her mother without fail. The ₹1 lakh will be handed over within two days.”

Anandhakshan and his wife Jiji started Sivas Silks 22 years ago. Bindu came to work there by chance — she had walked into the shop as a customer looking to buy a sari. Jiji casually asked her if she would like to work there. The very next day, Bindu returned, ready to begin.

The couple never imagined that a brief, incidental exchange would bring them a loyal employee who would become part of their extended family. Bindu's dedication was silent, her struggles invisible — and now, in her absence, her former employer has chosen to honour that quiet strength with dignity and care.
