Kollam: A newly engaged couple landed in trouble after the woman slipped into a 120-ft deep quarry lake in Parippally here on Thursday.
The incident happened around 11:00 am. The couple Vinu Krishnan and Sandra S Kumar was at the quarry after a short pilgrimage tour. It is reported that the woman slipped into the quarry lake while taking a selfie with her beau. Vinu too jumped into the lake to rescue her. Though he was able to keep her safe to the side of a rock, the duo got trapped.
Later, a youngster engaged in rubber tapping in the nearby plot happened to see the couple. Soon he alerted the locals and police and fire and rescue officials rushed to the spot.
Two local youths under the supervision of officials rescued the couple in a makeshift raft.
As both suffered injuries they were taken to hospital. Family members of the couple informed that the wedding has been postponed.
Selfie-related accidents and deaths are increasing in the state. The instances like this once again prove that people are not maintaining caution despite repeated accidents.
