Kochi: Water metro of Kerala crossed 10,000-mark in number of daily commuters within five days of inauguration. On Sunday, a total of 11,556 people used the service, said minister P Rajeev.
“This achievement is a testament to the Water Metro's safety and reliability, providing a journey experience comparable to that of developed countries,” Rajeev wrote on Facebook.

“On the first day, 6,559 people travelled, but the number has doubled. These increasing figures serve as proof that the water metro has already become an integral part of Kochi and Kerala's transportation network. With the arrival of new jetties and boats, a significant increase in ridership is expected in the coming days and months,” Rajeev said.
The metro operates every 15 minutes in the High Court-Vypin route from both terminals. Eight electric-hybrid boats plies on two routes - High Court-Vypin and Vyttila- Kakkanad. The operation starts at 7 am and closes at 8 pm. The project will be expanded connecting 10 islands in Kochi in future.
Kochi Water Metro service is the first of its kind in India and was built with the loan from KfW and the funds of Kerala government. The total cost is Rs 1136.83. Prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the metro on April 25.
