Kerala has initiated steps to set up a dedicated plastic recycling industrial park in Kochi, focusing on sustainability, circular economy and green manufacturing.

Kochi: Kerala Minister of Industries P Rajeev said initial steps have been taken to establish a dedicated industrial park exclusively for plastic recycling units in Kochi, underlining the state’s focus on sustainable industrial development and circular economy practices.
The Minister made the announcement on Monday while inaugurating the Petrochemical and Allied Sectors Summit, jointly organised by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) under the leadership of the Industries Department.
Highlighting Kerala’s vast potential in the petrochemical sector, Rajeev said the presence of Bharat Petroleum Corporation has opened up significant opportunities for downstream and value-added industries in the state. He added that efforts are underway to identify suitable land at Brahmapuram in Kochi for setting up the proposed plastic recycling industrial park.
The planned park is expected to provide a dedicated ecosystem for plastic recycling enterprises, promote green manufacturing, and support waste management and sustainability initiatives in Kerala.
Industries and Commerce Department Additional Chief Secretary A P M Muhammed Haneesh, Industries Department Director P Vishnuraj, BPCL BPREP head A N Sriram, Chief General Manager (Projects–PP) Jaikishan C Nath, and other senior officials were present at the event.
