Kochi: A health inspector of the Kochi Corporation has been suspended in connection with a dance event organised at Kaloor Stadium in which MLA Uma Thomas got seriously injured as she fell down from the stage. The organisers of the event, Mridanga Vision, had approached the corporation for a license. However, since they informed that the event would not involve ticket sales, the application for the license was rejected. The suspension was based on the reason that the health inspector had failed to inform higher officials about the matter.
An application regarding the event was submitted at the office of the junior health inspector in the 16th division Kaloor under the Kochi Corporation. The organisers had said that the event would not involve ticket sales, leading to the rejection of the application seeking license. However, the inspector failed to inform the corporation secretary or the revenue department about receiving such an application. It was on this ground that the junior health inspector was suspended.
Kochi mayor Anil Kumar clarified that the health inspector should have informed the corporation officials, enabling them to visit the stadium and conduct inspections. Meanwhile, the organisers had approached the health inspector for the license only the day before the event. Since it was an event involving ticket sales, the matter should have been brought to the attention of the revenue department instead of the health inspector.
