Kochi: Kerala Opposition Leader VD Satheesan on Tuesday cited a recent Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report and alleged that the Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL) had dispensed expired drug batches to hospitals. He demanded a comprehensive investigation on the matter.
He went on to say that the batches were not tested during purchase or inspected to ensure they fulfilled the expiration requirements.
"We have a medical system here that distributes expired medicines to commoners through Government hospitals. The Corporation supplied expired medicine batches to 26 hospitals. In addition, 483 hospitals received medications that were initially withheld owing to inferior quality. The medicines that had been ordered to be discontinued were distributed to 148 hospitals," he said.
