The extension, partially underground, is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Kochi: Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has commenced the Detailed Project Report (DPR) study for the third phase of the Kochi Metro, which plans to extend the metro corridor from Aluva to Angamaly via Nedumbassery Airport. The study is being prepared by Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd, based in Haryana, with an estimated cost of Rs 1.03 crore. The DPR is expected to be submitted within six months.
The planned extension will cover a distance of approximately 17.5 kilometers, which includes a significant portion of underground metro track. As part of the DPR process, extensive field investigations, surveys, and engineering studies will be carried out. The funding for the DPR is sourced from the Central Financial Assistance Scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
KMRL Managing Director Loknath Behera highlighted that the DPR study has received approvals from both the central and state governments. Public suggestions and feedback on the project are welcome and can be submitted via email contact@kmrl.co.in.
This new extension is expected to enhance connectivity between key urban and suburban centers in Kochi, improving access to Nedumbassery Airport and promoting seamless urban transit.
