Kannur: An accused in Periya double murder case suffered injuries in the attack at Kannur central jail. Echilamvayal native KM Suresh, a CPM worker was attacked by his jail mate on Thursday morning.

Azees, a native of Ernakulam attacked Suresh by smashing his head with a dumbbell when he was exercising near the second block. Suresh who suffered severe injuries was rushed to Kannur district hospital. He has also undergone emergency surgery.

Azees is a history-sheeter.

Suresh will be given expert care if needed, the district hospital authority said.
