He was kept in a cell in block number 10 of the jail and escaped after months of planning

Kannur: Visuals of the notorious convict Govindachamy’s prison break from the Kannur Central Jail have emerged. The footage shows him removing the bars of his cell after cutting through them. After exiting the cell in this manner, he tied the bars back in place before making his escape.
He was kept in a cell in block number 10 of the jail and escaped after months of planning, cutting the bars of his cell and climbing out by tying cloth to a large wall.
The police had conducted an extensive search for Govindachamy, who escaped from jail on Friday morning.
In the CCTV footage, Govindachamy can clearly be seen standing near a tree inside the jail premises after coming out of his cell, until 4:45 am on Friday.
Later, around 9 am, locals noticed a man without an arm acting suspiciously on the road in Talap. When one of them called out Govindachamy’s name, the convict ran towards a nearby forested area. Locals immediately informed the police.
The news of the jailbreak had already become widespread across the country. Eyewitnesses said the bus driver, feeling suspicious, called out to Govindachamy, prompting him to flee.
Subsequently, there were indications that Govindachamy, who had reached the Talap area, climbed into a nearby empty building. Upon learning that the police were closing in, he jumped over a wall and entered the premises of the National Statistics Office, where he jumped into a well in the compound. The police later nabbed him from there.
Govindachamy has since been shifted to the higher-security Viyyur Jail.
