Kannur: In the upcoming Assembly elections, CPM Central Committee member KK Shailaja will contest from Peravoor. A final decision was reached at the CPM Kannur district secretariat meeting. It was also decided to field PK Shyamala in Taliparamba.

At the Kannur district secretariat meeting held today, KK Shailaja’s name was finalised for Peravoor. With the party strictly implementing the term norm, Shailaja, who had wished to contest again from Mattannur, had to shift to Peravoor. Initially, her name was not included in the candidate list prepared by the district secretariat. Later, the state secretariat decided that KK Shailaja should contest.

As KK Shailaja moves to Peravoor, DYFI state secretary VK Sanoj will contest from Mattannur. CPM state secretary MV Govindan has stepped aside, and his wife PK Shyamala will contest from the Taliparamba constituency.

In Peravoor, KPCC president Sunny Joseph is likely to be KK Shailaja’s opponent. Shailaja had contested and won from Peravoor in 2006. However, in 2011, she lost to Sunny Joseph. Currently, Sunny Joseph is the sitting MLA from Peravoor.
