The Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board is set to open two petrol stations across Kannur and Kasaragod districts as part of its diversification initiative. One station will be located in Pappinisseri along the Pilathara–Pappinisseri road, and the other in Mavungal, near the Kasaragod–Kanhangad National Highway.

A memorandum of understanding has already been signed with Indian Oil Corporation for the Pappinisseri site. The paperwork for the Mavungal station is reported to be progressing, according to Khadi Board Vice Chairman P. Jayarajan.

“This is part of the board’s strategy to generate revenue from its idle land holdings across the state through diversification,” Jayarajan said.

He added that plans are also underway to construct guest houses on Khadi Board land with the participation of local self-governments and cooperative organisations. A detailed report has been prepared by the board assessing its property assets and exploring potential uses.

Dr K. A. Ratheesh, Secretary of the Khadi Board, said the board is also focusing on initiatives to boost revenue by producing clothing for the younger generation. Currently, the board oversees 3,077 societies, and plans are being drawn up to study these societies and implement suitable projects for income enhancement.
