Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the price hike of petrol and diesel, kerosene prices also increased by Rs 22 per litre in the state. With this, kerosene will cost Rs 81 per litre from April. At present, Rs 59 is being charged for kerosene per litre.
Meanwhile, the wholesale price of kerosene touched Rs 77 per litre.
It is reported that the central government has reduced the kerosene supply to Kerala by 40 per cent.
Oil companies have hiked the price of kerosene purchased by the Kerosene Dealers Association for carrying out the ration distribution. It is learnt that the price hike will affect the fishing sector too. Kerosene will cost above Rs 70 without the additional taxes. Hence, it will be priced at Rs 81 in ration shops.
A year ago, kerosene was available for Rs 28 per litre. Hence, the state government’s efforts to handle the price hike will be crucial. If the price continues to soar, more people will get affected in future.
Kerosene dealers opined that if things go like this, the supply will be completely stopped by 2025. It is alleged that the central government reduced the supply to Kerala and hiked the prices without considering the state’s demands.
