Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Jaya’ rice will be available in ration shops across the state soon. The central government will also allot additional kerosene to Kerala apart from the already sanctioned 20,000 Kilolitre.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by Kerala Civil Supplies minister GR Anil,  Minister of State Ministry of Petroleum Rameswar Teli and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.

Jaya rice will be supplied to Kerala from the FCI godown in Andhra Pradesh once the centre issues the order. The share of raw rice for Kerala will also increase. It is reported that the centre accepted Kerala's demand for 50 per cent supply of raw rice and Jaya rice through ration shops.

Meanwhile, kerosene will be supplied at the revised rate of Rs 81.

But the existing stock of kerosene will be distributed to yellow-card holding AAY consumers for Rs 53 per litre. The Centre also proposed to hold talks with oil companies regarding the purchase of more kerosene.

The Union ministers said that the Union government’s policy is to minimise kerosene consumption in Delhi and Haryana. The Union ministers said that they did not think that a state like Kerala with a new development culture would demand an increase in the kerosene quota.

In response, Minister GR Anil explained the situation in the state to the Union ministers. Kerosene engines used for fishing cannot be replaced all at once. After the meeting, 20,000 Kilolitres of kerosene were allotted for Kerala.
