During questioning, authorities recovered a significant quantity of stolen women’s underwear from his residence

Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Kerala for allegedly stealing women’s undergarments and recording videos of himself wearing them.
The accused, identified as Amul, resides within the Hebbagodi police station limits in the city. According to senior police officials, he was apprehended after CCTV footage captured his movements in residential lanes.
Police said Amul targeted homes and balconies where clothes were hung out to dry. He reportedly ensured no one was watching before stealing the garments.
During questioning, authorities recovered a significant quantity of stolen women’s underwear from his residence. A digital forensic examination of his mobile phone reportedly revealed multiple videos of him wearing the stolen items. Amul told investigators that he felt “intoxicated” while wearing the garments.
A suo motu case has been registered under Sections 303(2) (theft), 329(4) (house trespass), and 79 (words, sounds, gestures, or exhibiting objects intended to insult modesty or intrude upon privacy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
This is not the first such case in the region. In March 2025, Tumakuru police arrested a 25-year-old software engineer for stealing female students’ underwear. CCTV footage supported his confession, and he admitted to multiple thefts across the city. As the victims chose not to file formal complaints, he was released on bail with a warning. Investigators found he had a dependency on pornographic material; his parents are teachers, and his elder brother is also a software professional.
In a separate incident in Hebbagodi, police arrested a 23-year-old man on 19 January for wearing women’s undergarments in public, posing obscenely and causing public outrage.
